We Are One

Madison Square PC Choir
The MLP Board held its winter board meeting in San Antonio, Texas, February 17 - 20 so that we could attend the GAPJC hearing on the Spahr case and stand for marriage equality. Worship and solidarity events were hosted by University Presbyterian Church and Madison Square Presbyterian Church, More Light churches in San Antonio. Beacon Hill Presbyterian Church, San Antonio and St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Austin also participated in these events.

The primary work of the board meeting was preparation for the 220th General Assembly. Other work included analysis of the MLP survey after the passage of 10-A, an organizational assessment, website redesign and preparations for anti-bullying work. We worshipped at Madison Square Presbyterian Church on Sunday morning. Michael Adee, our Executive Director & Field Organizer, was the guest preacher.

After prayerful reflection upon the upcoming 220th General Assembly, June 30 - July 7, the Board was inspired to write this "We Are One" statement. Please do share this statement with your church, presbytery, campus ministry and seminary community.
We Are One

More Light Presbyterians are grateful to be in the PCUSA, as together we live into the ordination standards of G-2.0104. We look forward to working on the many important issues coming before the 220th General Assembly, and we fully support all movement toward marriage equality in the church.

We stand opposed to the schismatic attempts to reinstate the previous aberrant ordination standards in any form. We are grieved by the recent efforts to undermine our community, and weaken the covenant that binds us. We pray for the unity of our church and in particular for faithful members who find themselves in conflicted congregations, saying with Paul…

There is one body and one Spirit, just as we were called to the one hope of our calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism (Ephesians. 4:4-5).

The National Board of Directors, More Light Presbyterians
This statement was unanimously approved by the MLP Board on February 19, 2012.
